SCYPN / Cocoon House BBQ at Lowell Park

SCYPN Advisory Committee members met up with several young adult residents and staff of the Cocoon House Monroe location for a meet-n-greet BBQ at Lowell Park Thursday evening. It was a great way to get to know each other in a relaxing, casual atmosphere. Conversation topics included current and future goals and aspirations as well as job skills and opportunities for these future YP's.

Change is Everywhere! What is changing in your life?

Are you keeping up with your community? Tell us what you're doing! Are you implementing new structures at work because of the economy? Modernization of procedures? we want to know. Are you making an impact or working to do so....please share. We can't wait to hear what you all are up to. Even if its not you personally. Have you found a great new (or new to you) business you just can't wait to support? Share that with us, too.

And if you've been out of the loop, you might want to know what's going on with SCYPN. Your Advisory Committee has been working hard to refine its goals and missions, to provide YOU with a better organization and stronger support both in the workplace and with that every challenging work-life balance. What does that mean? We're working to get better events, more speakers, and establish a volunteer partnership in Snohomish County. This summer is the perfect time to establish roots in the YP community! We'll be looking for you at our next event, Thursday, the Irishmen. See you there.

YP Wake Ups!

SCYPN needs a Wake-Up! And so do you! We've got you covered with our newest addition to the event line up. Twice a month we'll be meeting for coffee at local shops in Snohomish County. There's no agenda, no speakers, just honest time to connect, or re-connect, with your peers. The YP Wake Up is every 2nd and 4th Friday from 7:30 - 8:30 a.m.

Check out the upcoming schedule! We'd love to see you there:

July 9 - Firewheel Beans & Books-2820 Oakes Ave., Everett
July 23 - Starbucks-515 SE Everett Mall Way, Everett

Feel free to recommend your favorite coffee shop. In addition to getting together, SCYPN loves to support its community.

SCYPN’s 2nd Birthday Bash

I’m tempted to start with telling you this was the best event SCYPN has put on yet but let’s start with the restaurant. I wasn’t sure exactly what I would walk into when I showed up at the two-week-old Mukilteo Lodge Sports Grille. After breathing in a splendid blend of fresh wood and paint, I got a quick tour of the joint from the G.M., Ryan Zawisza (formerly with Emory’s on Silverlake). As he talked excitedly about the place, he mentioned his big plans for the place that included an impressive fireside lounge, a spacious bar and booth-style seating, with a corner area (spiffy tavern feel) that included a pool table, jukebox, and a nice big-screen TV. Overall, I was shocked to see how packed the place was and even so, a fun, smiling host of servers and wait staff eager to help out.
Lots of new faces showed up at the reserved fireside lounge area for our event. A nice, fun mix of almost 40, mid-20 to late 30’s (hovering 40) aged professionals came with one mission in mind; to meet new people. That was evident with the willingness of individuals excited to talk about their businesses, their experiences with SCYPN, and even their hobby-filled weekends. Before I could take a sip of my beer, Head Chef Marshall Fuller greeted us with some fillet-tip crustinis which were quite the hit. Everybody I was able to chat with was animated at the new restaurant, the fun gathering, and all the connections that they were able to make in the two-hour event. The most exciting part was the common question of the night, “when is the next one of these?”

February event

The February SCYPN event at Flying Pig in Everett was a fun and friendly social event. I met several new people and enjoyed chatting with other yp's that have attended previous events. The food was great, the conversations were engaging, and I had the opportunity to learn from other's experiences. I am looking forward to the next event and meeting new people. ~Sarai

Why YPs Matter

Look around your office and your community...notice anything? Most of the individuals in decision-making positions are over 50. While retirement may not be as close as some may have though before the recession, the fact remains the same - young professionals represent the future of our community.

As baby boomer slowly inch away from their regular responsibilities at work in our communities, our generation will be left carrying the proverbial torch. While the much-feared mass exodus of baby boomers from the workforce looks unlikely, YPs are going to be required to step up and lead our communities over the next decade.

In order to lead effectively, YPs will need to acquire the necessary skills, knowledge and relationship. SCYPN programs and events are aimed at further developing these three areas providing insightful guest speakers, group volunteer activities and engaging social events.

Check out our Events page to see what we are up to this month.
